Yesudas made his playback singing debut in 1961 with the Malayalam song "Jaathi Bhedam Matha Dwesham". Known for his soul-stirring, versatile voice, he earned the title Gaana Gandharvan (the celestial singer). He is celebrated for singing in almost all major Indian languages and even recorded songs in Arabic, Latin, and Russian. One of his most notable and enduring devotional recordings is "Harivarasanam", which is officially played every night to close the doors of the Sabarimala temple.
